Our story

  1. FORMATION

    Our company is founded as Arthur Shaw Ltd (ASL) – a local manufacturer of bespoke furniture, handcrafted from timber.

  2. FAMILY BUSINESS

    Eric Moran purchases ASL and a year later sons Chris and David join him in the business as our flagship DIY store opens at a new Horsforth site.

  3. A NEW DIRECTION

    The company shifts production towards outdoor garden products and our first timber garden shed is created. ASL is renamed Woodlands Homecare Ltd.

  4. THREE GENERATIONS

    David’s son, Ross Moran, joins the business to upgrade our IT services and launch our first company website.

  5. RODLEY SITE

    We move our key production operations to a new purpose-built shed production and timber sawmill site at Rodley, Leeds.

  6. TIMBER LOG CABINS

    We begin manufacturing our own range of interlocking timber log cabins at the luxury end of the market.

  7. TIGERSHEDS.COM LAUNCHES

    We develop and launch our D2C brand tigersheds.com alongside a fleet of small vehicles to provide nationwide home delivery.

  8. TIGERFLEX® SHEDS

    We craft a truly unique modular shed that is configured by our customers, providing flexibility to have it exactly how you want it.

  9. A NEW VISION

    With David Moran retiring after 37 years of successful service, Ross assumes sole ownership, and the business launches its ambitious new 5-year vision.

  10. RESTRUCTURING

    Ged Lees is appointed to our Board of Directors, helping to create a new senior team. Woodlands Homecare Ltd is renamed Woodlands Home & Garden Group.

  11. THORNBURY SITE

    We purchase a state-of-the-art new factory in Thornbury, which will house all log cabin production, allowing expansion of shed production at Rodley.

  12. TIGERFLEX® LOG CABINS

    We launch Tigerflex® configurable log cabins, featuring interchangeable doors and window positionings for ultimate flexibility.

Woodlands Excellence

Our ‘Excellence Teams’ identify and quickly action positive changes across 4 key areas of the business:
Quality & Customer Excellence Team
Responsible for the management of 8-point quality checks across all departments.
Waste Reduction & Visual Excellence Team
Responsible for reducing all excess cost, wasted time and resources, and implementing sustainable improvements to ensure operational efficiency.
Labour Efficiency Excellence Team
Responsible for measuring labour costs, staff headcounts and efficiency across the business, including production, driver and warehouse efficiency.
Employee Engagement Excellence Team
Responsible for staff initiatives, such as the We Are Woodlands groups and the company newsletter, ensuring the best possible culture for achievement within the business.

The Woodlands Academy was created as a centralised hub to provide inductions, training, support and development opportunities for everyone within the Woodlands Group.

In line with our pursuit of excellence, we are committed to a strategy of continuous improvement in all areas, and the Academy aims to identify and implement the appropriate processes to drive this forward.
